Region boasts a Lotto winner
AN unregistered quickpick purchased from a Gladstone newsagency has made a lucky person an instant millionaire.
The new year could hardly have started better for 28 lucky Australians who each became $1,142,857 richer after Saturday night's $32 million Gold Lotto megadraw.
One happy winner purchased their entry from Park Street Newsagency & Gifts at Gladstone.
The newsagency's senior sales assistant, Sam Brown, said the identity of the winner remained a mystery.
"A lot of people have been coming in wanting to know if it was them,'' she said yesterday.
"It's good that Gladstone has had a win and we hope the person is a local.
"All of the staff here have been getting pretty excited.''
The winning entry was one of four purchased in Queensland.
There were hard luck stories including that of The Morning Bulletin's news editor Frazer Pearce.
On Friday Rockhampton's record-breaking $3 million Powerball winner from July gave Mr Pearce $10 to buy a quickpick after an interview.
The multi-millionaire had promised to go halves in any winnings.
Unfortunately for Mr Pearce, the best their entry could do was three numbers.
"I think I jinxed it ? it must have been the other guy's three numbers that we got,'' Mr Pearce said.
No luck either for myself, who in The Bully last week offered a set of lucky numbers of which two were drawn.
The winning numbers were 9, 39, 20, 12, 15 and 43. The supplementary numbers were 25 and 14.
