Rep duties for paddling pair

ROCKY Outrigger Canoe Club's Duncan Williams and Mick Barsby are stepping up to North Queensland representative duties. The pair qualified after the OC1 6km races at Malanuka, Mackay, last weekend.

Williams won the master men's race with Barsby, racing in a borrowed canoe, placing fifth.

They were named in a nine-man team which will now compete together at the prestigious Hamilton Island Cup from June 24-27.

Rocky had a strong run at Malanuka on the weekend with the open men placing second in their 1000m sprint and third in the marathon.

The Rocky OC2 mixed combination of Simon Harris and Rachael Chadwick placed third (3km) with OC2 men's combination Dave Gaiter and Peter Helliwell finishing third (6km).

Cap Coast competitors also impressed.

Gold medallists included the senior master women (marathon/sprint) and master women (marathon/sprint) while the senior master men placed second (sprint) and third (marathon).
