Rhonda?s mindful of meditation benefits

IN a fast-paced world it seems there is no end to worries and stresses.

Job pressures are constant, the cost of living is ever-increasing and raising a family is always challenging.

But some have found a way of letting go of these tiresome thoughts.

They have learned to release tension and stress through meditation.

Rockhampton's Rhonda Shuker, 56, has been practising meditation for about two years and says it has helped her to be more aware of her feelings.

"What I find good about it is letting go of negative thoughts and notions,'' she said.

"It's really a way of calming and relaxing the mind.''

And Ms Shuker is not alone.

Meditation is slowly growing in popularity in both Rockhampton and Australia, says Devaki Alahakone, member of Rockhampton's Meditation Society.

"There certainly has been a growth in interest in Rockhampton,'' she said.

"Meditation calms the mind and reduces the chances of disease.
