Roberts down at Redcliffe

FORMER Rockhampton golfer Nathan Roberts was beaten two and one in the Queensland Amateur Championship final yesterday at Redcliffe Golf Club.

After 18 matchplay holes, Roberts (Pacific) and Aaron Pike (Indooroopilly) were level, however it was Pike who took an early lead in the afternoon round which he would not relinquish.

A birdie on the par five fourth hole was not good enough for Roberts, when Pike made eagle to go two up. Pike extended his lead, went to four up after 31 holes, then held off a late charge by Roberts.

Rockhampton products have a good record at the tournament ? last year Jason Day, who did not play this year, won the Amateur.

Roberts is a scholarship-holder at the Queensland Academy of Sport golf program.
