Rockhampton to demonstrate skills in North

ROCKHAMPTON cyclists are powering into their first major hit-out of the new track season in Townsville this weekend.

Jeremy Hogg is joining the field and has a dual role this weekend when he joins William Draffen and Ben Simonelli, his under-19 national team sprint champion team-mates, in a demonstration event.

Hogg represented Australia at this year's World Junior Track Championships, winning a bronze medal in the team sprint event.

Other Rockhampton cyclists competing in Townsville are Ben Moore, Tyler Wright, Alex Bright and Joshua Edwards.

Mackay's Australian junior track team representative, Chloe McPherson, a former BMX world champion, will also join the demonstration events.

The two nights of racing includes handicaps, wheelraces, keirin, points scores and scratch races.

Racing started last night and winds up tonight.

n Meanwhile, at the Cycling Queensland awards night during the week Rockhampton Cycling Club's cycling strength was highlighted.

This year's award winners included Rockhampton's Grant Irwin (under-23 men), Philippa Hindmarsh (under-17 female track), Jeremy Hogg (under-19 male track) and the now Adelaide-based Anna Meares (elite women track).
