Rocky boys charged with triple murder

TWO Rockhampton boys aged 16 and 17 are facing multiple murder charges after the discovery of three bodies beaten beyond recognition at a unit in Toowoomba, 130km west of Brisbane.

As police work to establish a motive for the slayings, officers have been shocked by the horrific, violent nature of the crime.

The three victims, all men believed to be aged between 17 and 30, were found dead at 1am yesterday morning at the Hume Street unit.

A 16-year-old boy raised the alarm, saying he had been bashed unconscious at the same unit but recovered enough to alert police.

The two charged over the murders were among five people arrested when a police chase ended with officers drawing their guns.

Police began the pursuit after they spotted a vehicle matching the description of a van a witness saw leaving the murder scene. The five ? three males and two females ? were arrested when police stopped the van by laying road spikes on the Ipswich Motorway at Goodna, near Brisbane, about 2am, an hour after the alarm was raised.

Police said the two youths had each been charged with three counts of murder, and would face court today.

The 17-year-old will front the Toowoomba Magistrates Court, and the 16-year-old will face the Toowoomba Children's Court.
