Rocky pair join all-stars

ROCKY Outrigger Canoe Club's Mick Barsby and Duncan Williams have booked a place in the all-star Xylo Bladz crew for next month's Hamilton Island Cup.

The leading duo passed time trials at last weekend's Coral Sea Extreme Challenge in Townsville.

Barsby, the Rocky club's head coach, cruised to victory in the master men's OC1 5km race, with Williams placing third. The pair will join the representative team to contest the Hamilton Island Cup from June 24 to 27.

It was another successful northern assault for the Rocky club which returned home with two gold and five bronze medals.

The club's mixed team produced a gutsy win in the 35km changeover race, which lasted more than three hours.

Peter Helliwell won bronze in the open men's OC1 race, while Kate Watson finished third in the open women's 15kg OC1 5km race.

The club's master men's crew also took out bronze in the 11km marathon.
