Rocky stars guide Aussies to a record
ROCKHAMPTON hockey stars Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles have guided the Kookaburras to a world record.
Olympic champion Australia posted the highest score in the history of men's international hockey, beating Fiji 26-0 in a World Cup qualifying match in Suva this week.
Dwyer scored six goals and Grant Schubert and Matt Naylor bagged four each in the Oceania World Cup qualifying match as the Kookaburras beat the previous mark set by Argentina in a 25-0 win over Paraguay in the 2003 South American championship.
That was one goal more than India's 24-1 thrashing of the US at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics.
But the record win did not overly excite Kookaburras coach Barry Dancer.
He said the romp ? Australia led 14-0 at halftime ? was not good preparation for today's final of the three-nation tournament against New Zealand.
