Rocky to host Maroons squad

IT'S a really exciting time for rugby league in Central Queensland when State of Origin fever grips the air.

But this year, that anticipation and excitement is already reaching a climax.

With the countdown to this year's Origin series just under three weeks away, Central Queenslanders are preparing to play their part in the rugby league spectacle.

The Legends of Origin Relay, NRL road train and the Queensland team for game one will hit Rockhampton on May 18 during the annual buildup to the series opener at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on May 25.

In a first for CQ and a great promotion for the code, the Maroons squad will have an open training session and autograph signing at Browne Park that day.

The Legends of Origin Relay, led by Origin heroes Arthur Beetson, Kerry Boustead, Billy Moore and Wayne Pearce, will also be on hand, while the interactive NRL road train will be parked outside the Rockhampton Leagues Club.

It will no doubt be the opportunity of a lifetime for all league fans to rub shoulders with their favourite players ? past and present ? and wish them good luck for their clash against arch-enemies NSW.

Finally, that night the Central division is hosting a sportsman's dinner at the leagues club, with the Queensland team and Legends of Origin special guests.

With homegrown stars Rhys Wesser, Matt Sing, PJ Marsh and Steve Bell sure to play a leading role in the 2005 series, there is only one tip for not just league fans, but the whole CQ sporting public in general.

Get behind your team and go the Maroons!
