Running rail to Yeppoon

STEPHEN Johns has always wanted to see a train running on the Yeppoon-Rockhampton line, but he's settling for a section car.

Mr Johns, founder of rail group Railink said he and fellow members had spent the past two weeks getting a pre-used section car up to scratch to run on the line, between Yeppoon Railway Station on James Street and Bondoola, later this month. He said he had e-mailed Queensland Rail to notify them of his intentions.

"We will be wearing appropriate safety gear,'' he said. "I can't see it being a problem.

But a Queensland Rail external communications spokesperson said they were still trying to locate the application for access to a section of the Yeppoon to Rockhampton Rail Line on behalf of Mr Johns. "If a vehicle is operated on QR's rail network without network access accreditation QR will take immediate action to stop the operation of the vehicle to ensure the protection of the community and the track infrastructure,'' she said.

"QR may then choose to take legal action against the operator of the vehicle.''

An exact date of when the section car will run on the line has not been set.
