Service station heist leads two to court

A ROCKHAMPTON man who allegedly took almost $19,000 from a safe in a service station has been released on bail with strict conditions.

Daniel John McGregor, 24, of Alexandra Street, North Rockhampton, appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday charged with entering premises to commit an indictable offence.

The court was told McGregor had formed a friendship with the service station manager, Cameron Lindsay Gear, 27, who also appeared in court yesterday charged with the same offence.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Kay Schick told the court that McGregor and Gear had made arrangements not to activate the security alarm on the night of the alleged offence.

"As a result McGregor has gained entry to the premises and gained entry to the safe,'' she said.

McGregor allegedly took $18,494 from the safe.

Senior Constable Schick said information about the alleged offence was obtained by witnesses.

McGregor and Gear are expected to appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 19 for committal mention.
