Shuker gets spot in Qld Origin team

ROCKHAMPTON'S Gavin Shuker has led a successful Australian open men's touch football assault and now his sights are on a New South Wales State team.

Shuker is one of several Central Queensland players selected for Queensland teams to contest the State of Origin against New South Wales in August next year.

Joining Shuker in the Queensland open men's team is Rockhampton's Daniel Withers.

Other Central Queenslanders called in were Matt Baker (open mixed), Dean Taylor (20 men), Alan Hunter, Justin Lawrence, John Fitzgerald (40 men), Greg Duncan, Nev Beckman, Steve Berry (45 men), Matt Barclay (30 men) and Linda Patterson (35 women).

The 40 and 45 men's players competed for the CQU Bullants at this month's State Cup.

Former Central Queenslanders also selected were Phil Gyemore (open men), Justin Mitchell (open/20 men), Graham White, Jason Powell (30 men) and Sandi O'Brien (40 women).

Barclay, of Emerald, and Mitchell, now in Brisbane, also represented Australia at last month's All Nations Championships in New Zealand in their respective men's 30 and open mixed teams.
