Sisters race into rodeo challenge

? DINGO sisters Tessa and Rachael Charles are racing towards fast success.

Tessa, 16, and Rachael, 15, will join an Australian high schools rodeo team at the Trans Tasman Challenge in New Zealand starting on March 25.

The Charles sisters are two of the three-member barrel racing team.

Not a bad effort considering the sisters have only been competing on the rodeo barrel racing circuit for the past 12 months after learning their craft on the pony club scene.

The Yeppoon St Ursula's College students booked a start after gaining the necessary points from qualifying rounds which included Moranbah, Bowen River, Nebo, Capella, Clermont and St Brendan's College events.

Rachael is making her Australian debut while Tessa competed in this series at the Ekka in Brisbane last August.

Although Rachael was not in the winning team she is not daunted by stepping up to this level of competition.

The Trans-Tasman event, which will be staged on New Zealand's North Island, features the top three competitors from each country in each discipline.

Other Central Queensland competitors are expected to be named in the team which will be finalised over the next fortnight.
