Sisters take up challenge

DEMIKA and Talia Simpson, of Yeppoon, may be young, but they are not afraid of a challenge.

The sisters have decided to raise money for the Queensland Cancer Fund through Challenge for Cancer.

And they are ambitious as well, hoping to raise $20,000 with their first fundraising effort.

Their lives have been touched by cancer, with a close friend and relative battling the disease.

"We are holding a scrap booking workshop on May 21 at the Yeppoon Town Hall from 9.30am,'' Demika said.

"In the next couple of weeks we will hold a fashion parade and a disco.''

Their mother Kylie was also an inspiration, having taken part in fundraising through Challenge for Cancer for the past six years.

"It (cancer) touches one in three of us,'' Mrs Simpson said. "I first became involved because a friend's mother had it (cancer).''

Queensland Cancer Fund's Challenge for Cancer runs for six months, with fundraising closing in August.
