Smithy ?will move to Sea FM

By EVAN SCHWARTEN ? HOT FM'S popular breakfast an- nouncer Daniel "Smithy'' Smith will move to Sea FM next year, a confidential source told The Morning Bulletin last week.

Smithy has reportedly signed on to host the station's breakfast show next year with one of the station's current announcers Paul "Blunty'' Blunt.

That information comes despite claims from Macquarie Regional Radio Network (which owns both stations) boss Rhys Holleran late last week that it was business as usual for Hot FM in Rock- hampton.

The source also claimed the sta- tion's Quay Street studios had been stripped bare more than two weeks ago, prompting The Morn- ing Bulletin to pay a visit to Hot FM's office last Friday.

Although staff refused to com- ment or allow entry, the empty studio was clearly visible from re- ception.

Macquarie Regional Radio Net- work now owns all four of Rock- hampton's and Gladstone's major commercial radio stations Hot FM, 4CC, Sea FM and 4RO after purchasing the latter two stations earlier this year.

The source said he also be- lieved Macquarie would sell off the two AM (4CC and 4RO) sta- tions next year.

However, he was unsure what lay in store for the two FM sta- tions' other breakfast announc- ers, Hot FM's Joh Switzer and Sea FM's Nelly McKenzie.

The Morning Bulletin tried sev- eral times to contact Mr Holleran but he repeatedly refused to re- turn phone calls.
