Southerners take lead in sprintcars

NEW South Wales speedway drivers have dominated the opening round of the World Series Sprintcars Championships.

Brooke Tatnell won the first race of the 19-round series at Brisbane's Archerfield Raceway on Saturday night.

Tatnell took out the feature ahead of fellow New South Wales competitors Robbie Farr and Max Dumesny.

Round two of the World Series Sprintcars Championships roars into Rockhampton this week.

The international event will be staged at the Rockhampton Showgrounds on Wednesday night.

An open practice session will be held tomorrow night, followed by a meet and greet with the drivers and crews.

Local and international teams started arriving in Central Queensland yesterday ? returning to Rockhampton for the first time in more than 20 years.
