Sprintcar return after 20 years

FOR the first time in almost 20 years, the World Series Sprintcars Championships will return to Rockhampton later this year.

The Rockhampton Showgrounds will host one of three rounds in Queensland on November 16.

"We're absolutely thrilled to have secured a round of world series sprintcars,'' Rockhampton Saloon Car Club's Mark Hogan said.

Rockhampton's inclusion into the schedule is no fluke, the venue has been significantly upgraded over the past two seasons and it now boasts one of the most racer-friendly pit areas in Australian speedway.

Getting a crowd to the venue won't be an issue either, the last time a Queensland domestic sprintcar event was held in Rockhampton attracted more than 6000 fans.

Archerfield and Toowoomba will host the other rounds.
