State funds for our beef expo

PREMIER Peter Beattie will announce a $500,000 grant to Beef Australia today.

The announcement is expected after Cabinet meets at the Gracemere Saleyards this morning. The funding will be used to help the organisation prepare and promote Beef 2006, to be held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds in May next year.

Beef Australia chairman Geoff Murphy yesterday thanked the Government for the funding saying it would help secure the event's future in Rockhampton.

"It allows us to make it a premier event that people from across the world want to come and see. It helps us to make it something long-term,'' he said.
