Summer season touches down

WHAT do the Loaded Hogs, Hammer Time, Drop Bears, Big Wheels, Boozers and Sytriht have in common?

They have all joined 176 men's, ladies and mixed teams during the opening round of the Rockhampton Touch Association summer season at the Cyril Connell Park fields this week.

The start of a new season means the arrival of more and more unique team names.

Joining the A-grade men's title chase are Sytriht, which stands for Thirtys spelt backwards.

The brainchild of Nathan Cheng, Terry Etherden and the Barclay brothers, Simon and Matt, Sytriht suffered a 9- 5 loss to Buckaneers (1).

Buckaneers (2) also tasted victory in the first round with a 9-3 win over Bulldogs.

Both Buckaneers teams are preparing to face-off in next Wednesday night's second round while Sytriht play Bulldogs. In the A Ladies grand final replay, Bulldogs upset champions Buckaneers.
