Swanson to give classic showing

BASKETBALL ? ROCKHAMPTON basketball player Brianna Swanson is hop- ing the shots keep dropping when she makes her State Classics de- but in Townsville this weekend.

Brianna, 11, will join the Rock- hampton under-12 girls' team which opens its campaign against Cairns tomorrow while the Rockhampton under-12 boys face Brisbane Blue first up.

Despite being young in years it has already been a remarkable journey for the 164cm player.

Brianna was only introduced to basketball last year in a learn-to- play program before making her competition debut this year ? she is already proving a big hit.

In last week's grand finals Brianna collected 23 points for Ripperteam Blue in their 27-17 win over Frenchville Panthers White in the division four girls' title decider.

This was hot on the heels of Brianna hitting all her team's points in their 32-24 semi-final win over Frenchville Panthers Green.

"I felt like a bit of a ball hog, but we hadn't won against Frenchville before and I just wanted to get in there and shoot as many points as I could,'' Brianna said.

"I just made lots of fast breaks and lay-ups.''

The Classics will be a new chal- lenge for Brianna, but she is will- ing to play wherever she is needed.
