Sweet taste of success

By DARRYN NUFER ? IT was sweet victory for Rockhampton at the 81st Town and Country Teams Carnival at Victoria Park yesterday.

The DC Motors team of Chris Bridges, Barry Harth, Jeff Shillam, Craig Taylor, Brendan Latcham and Gympie ring-in Matt Brown won the men's A-grade title with an 18-14 win over Drop Bears in the final.

In the women's A-grade, IOWA's gave the host city a double by winning a hard-fought final 17-15 over fellow Rockhampton team Power Holes.

Kathy Waraker, Jill South, Emily and Lynne Bampton, and Corinne Cash made up the winning team.

In other finals, local team Good Times defeated Rowe's Raiders 15-5 in the men's B1 division, and Rockhampton's Nike Nobodies were too good for Bilo Girls winning 23-12 in the women's B1 final.

This year's carnival, the biggest teams event in Queensland annually, attracted 73 teams and more than 450 players ? social and serious ? from as far as Canberra, Brisbane, Longreach and Darwin.

Rockhampton Tennis Association secretary Paul Bampton hailed the event a success.
