Taking aim for league shoot-out

PREMIERSHIP dark horse Rockhampton Brothers have fine-tuned their preparations for this weekend's CQ Extended League "shoot-out'' with premiers Wallabys.

Rockhampton Brothers cemented their finals place with an impressive 64-8 thrashing in their round 15 clash against Biloela at Rockhampton's Victoria Park on Saturday night.

It was an all-round performance from the home side, led by captain Gavin Duffy, centre Gerry Doyle and hooker Tom Simpson.

With only two rounds remaining, the Brethren now face the defending champions in a crucial match at Gladstone's Marley Brown Oval next Sunday.

Wallabys, who ended Yeppoon's finals hopes with a 52-20 victory on Saturday night, are in a battle for third with Rockhampton Brothers.

Come finals time, the top three placed teams are guaranteed a double chance.

Rockhampton Brothers coach Steve Parle said his charges were hitting their straps at the right end of the season.

"It's going to be a shoot-out for that third spot,'' Parle said.

Gladstone Brothers held-out a gallant FitzoryGracemere 20-18 at Marley Brown Oval on Saturday night while at Tannum Sands yesterday the CQU Norths Chargers demolished the home side 116-13.

Round 17 (July 23/24) ? Saturday ? Fitzroy-Gracemere v Valleys (Saleyards Park), Biloela v Tannum Sands (Biloela), Sunday ? CQU Norths v Gladstone Brothers (Browne Park), Wallabys v Rockhampton Brothers (Marley Brown Oval), Yeppoon bye.
