TCC rugby players testing new arena

A GROUP of rugby union players will get a rapid introduction into the world of touch football in Brisbane this week.

The Cathedral College (TCC) under-15 boy's team is preparing to make its debut at this year's All Schools Carnival which starts on Friday.

Joining the team are eight players from the TCC rugby union side, who are unbeaten in this year's Rockhampton and District Secondary Schools competition.

Another player to watch is rugby league flyer Joe Collin-Soo, already contracted to NRL competition heavyweights the Brisbane Broncos.

Coach John Fitzgerald said the team's main goal was about gaining experience at this level.

TCC will play four round games before the elimination finals. The three-day event has attracted more than 300 teams from throughout Queensland.

After the State event, the TCC players will return home to play in the Butchers Cup spring/summer competition under the guidance of Australian captain, Rockhampton's Gavin Shuker.

Meanwhile, Rockhampton junior touch fixtures continue on Friday night and Saturday morning at Cyril Connell touch fields.
