Thief breaks woman?s teeth

By MIKARLA THURECHT ? A NORTH Rockhampton woman had teeth knocked out after wrestling with a man who was trying to steal her handbag on Saturday night.

Police warn the man may strike again.

The woman, 43, who asked not to be identified, had been visiting a North Rockhampton video store with her son when the man approached her about 6.30pm.

CIB plainclothes Constable Brendan Davis said the woman had parked in the store's carpark and was making her way inside when attacked.

Constable Davis said the man had been sitting on a large rock and had jumped her from the side as she walked past.

"They had a wrestle (with the handbag). She wouldn't let go.

He's hit her, maybe with an elbow, and she's lost a few teeth,'' Constable Davis said.

Constable Davis said the man took off with the woman's bag containing a small amount of cash and fled into Kershaw Gardens.

He said the woman's 12-year-old son, who had run ahead to the store, had then tried to unsuccessfully chase the man.

Constable Davis said the attack had been planned.

"I'd like to urge people to be more security-conscious when walking around. He may strike again.''

Constable Davis said police were appealing for help to find the robber who may have been seen in Kershaw Gardens soon after the attack.

He is described as being in his late teens, 170cm tall, caucasian, of medium build with shoulder-length straight brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a grey Tshirt and knee-length white cargo pants.
