Tip-off sends croc search to lagoon
THE SEARCH for Missy, Rockhampton's missing freshwater crocodile, intensified last night after police received information she may be in Murray Lagoon.
Rockhampton Zoo staff were scouring the lagoon at the zoo for the second consecutive night.
Missy, 1.2m, was stolen from her enclosure almost two weeks ago and despite four people being charged with the theft, she has not been found.
The city council's parks director Tom Wyatt said Wednesday night's search had yielded few clues.
"They (staff) thought they saw croc eyes on the far side of the swamp, but we're yet to find any physical evidence,'' he said.
"We're very optimistic. If it's not in there (Murray Lagoon) we're hoping it's in another freshwater lagoon.''
Mr Wyatt said last night's search would be intensive.
"They (crocodiles) are very nocturnal.
"She won't be out until later in the night if she's in there.''
The unusual theft made national and international headlines. Missy was taken from her zoo enclosure which also contained her mate, Charlie.
He may have been asleep at the time and has reportedly been missing her.
