Toovey to hit big in Mackay

ROCKHAMPTON'S Sean Toovey knows a big score in Mackay this weekend will get him a step closer to a Queensland Country call-up for next year's Australian Country Championships.

Toovey will line-up for the North Queensland open representative team, along with Rockhampton captain Todd Wells, to play South Queensland.

Toovey, Queensland Cricket's new Central Queensland regional cricket manager, unexpectedly found himself in the northern squad after starring for the Central Queensland open side in last month's North Queensland Championships.

Toovey said Queensland Country selection was his next goal when the 100-over match starts tomorrow.

"I hadn't thought about it much but if I can get some runs this weekend you never know.''

The national championships will be held in Mandurah, Western Australia, in January.

Meanwhile, Rockhampton's Liam Kelly will join the Queensland Country under-19 side to play Queensland under-17s in Brisbane from Monday.
