Top sprinters nominated for Lightning Hcp

MANY of Queensland's best short-course sprinters have been nominated for the $15,000 Lightning Handicap (1000m) at the Rockhampton Jockey Club's DC Motors race day at Callaghan Park racecourse on Saturday.

A total of 21 sprinters are Lightning nominations while 14 juveniles have been entered for the $40,000 DC Motors 2YO Classic (1200m).

Among the star lineup for the Lightning are Nessuno, Treasure The Kwila, Zoe's Lad, Steel Cap, Our Secret Agent, Town Player and Enzeel.

John Wigginton's Nessuno, winner of the prestigious Eye Liner Stakes (1200m) at Ipswich last winter, indicated he is on target for the Lightning with an impressive barrier trial win over 500 metres at Callaghan Park last Monday.

Darryl Johnston will ride Nessuno while Dale Evans has been booked for Zoe's Lad.

Toowoomba trainer Allan Ross has veteran Treasure The Kwila in Rockhampton for the Lightning and other feature sprints over the next few months.

Nathan Evans has been booked for the Lightning mount on Treasure The Kwila.

Recent Capricorn Classic winner Deceiving is likely to head the weights for the DC Motors Classic.

However Deceiving does not have the time-honoured juvenile race at his mercy as Romatrained Brave Hawk youngster Elanet, a dual Callaghan Park winner, will ensure stiff competition.
