Training for victory again
COLTS coach Viv Rowe and his premiership-winning team are preparing to enter unchartered waters.
The Rockhampton and District Rugby Union (RDRU) defending A-grade and reserve champions return to the training paddock this week in the build-up to their 2006 title defence.
Colts celebrated their first A-grade title in 15 years with a gripping 21-15 grand final win over University last season.
The groundbreaking victory capped a season of dominance, which also included the club's premiership triumph in reserve grade. But Rowe, who is back in the A-grade coaches seat, has warned his troops another challenge awaits just around the corner.
"The competition is so even every year,'' Rowe said.
"Brothers have a very good squad together, University will be strong again and Dawson Valley and Frenchville are unknown quantities.''
While Colts have lost the services of representative forwards Zach Jones and Alex Eria, the club has retained the nucleus of last year's squad.
Rowe will be flanked by forwards coach David Price, manager Kev Lauga, and reserve grade mentor Frank Busby, this season.
Colts train at Nutlery Field on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm. The RDRU competition will kick-off in April following the Queensland Country Championships.
