Trio picked for Heelers

THE GAMBLE has paid off for the Rockhampton Readymix Brahmans after three players were yesterday named in this year's Queensland Country Heelers squad.

Brahmans captain Joel Johnston, forward Sean Kearns and inside centre Jamie Blyton gained selection in the 32-man squad for the 2005 Australian Rugby Shield, which starts next month.

Johnston and Kearns both return to the Heelers squad after joining last season's title charge while Blyton finally gets the chance to pull on the Queensland Country jersey after narrowly missing out in the past.

The selections are a massive boost for Rockhampton who fin- ished last in their southern division debut in this year's Queensland Country Championships.

The Heelers squad will enter a week-long camp in Brisbane on April 30 before the squad is trimmed to 22 for the opening round against Perth on May 7.

Queensland Country play in Rockhampton against Adelaide on June 4.
