Twist of fate and Gran wins a cool $200,000

FIND 10 words ? take home $200,000.

That seemingly simple formula, but very elusive formula, changed the life of a Central Queensland grandmother last week when she took out the top prize on a crossword scratch-it.

The woman, who asked not to be named, bought the scratch-it from NewsXpress Rockhampton in City Centre Plaza last Wednesday but didn't scratch it until she got home that afternoon.

"I thought I was going to have a heart attack, I had to call my daughter and get her to come around and have a look at it,'' she said.

But she said it was a twist of fate that placed her at the newsagency that morning.

"Normally I go in on Thursday but my grand-daughter had missed her tennis training on Monday because she was sick and needed a lift into town for a make-up session.''

And she said the reality of the win was yet to set in. "I can't stop looking at it, I can't believe I've won, the cheque is still in a plastic bag.''

She said she wasn't planning to spend the $200,000 just yet. "I just want to put it away for a few months and think what to do with it.''

NewsXpress owner Colleen Kenny said staff were delighted by the win.

"It's a pretty big prize, it's great because she's a regular customer,'' she said.
