Victoria Park takes sixth bowls shield win

VICTORIA Park bowlers have continued their domi- nance of the Fred Harrup Shield.

The Rockhampton club with- held a gallant Welfare team to collect their sixth straight title at the weekend.

Playing on their home greens, Victoria Park survived a scare in their semi-final clash with the Mount Morgan club.

Welfare had won the fours match before the home side took out the pairs, leaving the singles game between Barry Chandler and Col James to de- cide the winners.

With scores locked at 23-all on the final end, James was able to score two shots to guide Vic- toria Park into the decider.

In the final, Victoria Park went on to win all three match- es against another giant-killer, Gracemere. Gracemere upset last year's finalists, Yeppoon, in their semi-final clash.

Yeppoon were lucky to pro- gress to the top four after Brad Bettiens produced a winning shot in their final round match against North Rockhampton.

Meanwhile, Victoria Park will host a social day for Cen- tral Queensland men's presi- dent, Noel McDonald, on Sun- day.
