Waugh may be gone but the love lives on

STEVE Waugh might have retired from cricket, but that hasn't stopped Rockhampton's Andrew Harris keeping the former Australian cricket captain close to his heart.

Andrew can never forget his favourite player after getting a Steve Waugh tattoo on his chest about two years ago.

"It seemed like a good idea at the time,'' Andrew said.

"I had it done on the day of his last Test in Brisbane ? I got it done in the morning, I took a magazine picture of him with me, and he got out for a duck that afternoon after he stood on his stumps.''

While Andrew is still waiting to meet Steve Waugh to show him how much of a dedicated fan he is, some of Australia's current cricketers are already impressed.

After this month's one-day international match between Australia and South Africa at the Gabba in Brisbane, Andrew joined his mates at the Regatta Hotel for some post-match refreshments.

Among the Australian players there were Michael Clarke and Andrew Symonds.

Andrew's former Brothers team-mate Craig Window approached Clarke and told him about a tattoo of Steve Waugh that Andrew had on his chest.

Clarke ventured over and was reportedly impressed with the artwork.

"He came over and shook my hand and thought it (the tattoo) was great,'' Harris said.

Not only does he have the Steve Waugh tattoo, but during his Brothers playing days he also had his red rag nearby ? just like Steve Waugh used to ? and relied on a constant supply of red underwear to also try to bring him good luck on the cricket field.
