Weather favours fine racing
MELBOURNE CUP fever will grip Rockhampton today as the city prepares for the race that stops the nation.
Fine weather is expected on the track in Melbourne and also in Rockhampton with temperatures reaching 30 degrees.
Rockhampton Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Murray Porteous said a light shower was possible in Rockhampton but would have no effect on the Callaghan Park track.
"It will be much the same light shower as what we had today (yesterday),'' Mr Porteous said.
Gates open at Callaghan Park at 9.30am with the Melbourne Cup at 2pm and entertainment by Lyle McCullagh from 4pm.
Here are just some of the events happening today: l Rockhampton Pensioners League, Schotia Place, will hold its Melbourne Cup luncheon from 11am.
l Places are still available at the Friends of Archer Park Station and Steam Tram Museum's Melbourne Cup luncheon at 11.30am in the air-conditioned Refreshment Rooms at Archer Park Station.

l Rockhampton Leagues Club will hold a Cup luncheon from 11am and include a fashion parade and lucky door prizes.
l Brothers Leagues Club Capricornia will hold a luncheon from 11.30am with lucky door prizes, best hat, trivia games and entertainment by Rick-A-Shay.
l Frenchville Sports Club will hold its luncheon from 11.30am with trivia games, lucky door and lucky ticket prizes.
Tickets are $25 a head.
