Wells has confidence in chase for victory

FRENCHVILLE captain Todd Wells remains confident his team can get off to a winning start in their Rockhampton Cricket Association 2005-06 Southern Star Sports Shield opening round clash with Bluebirds.

Wells (17 n/o) and all-rounder Kel Applewaite (5 n/o) will resume Frenchville's run-chase at 5/52 at the Rockhampton Cricket Grounds this Saturday.

Veteran Bluebirds paceman Clarry Plummer claimed 4/11 (11 overs) after his side was bundled for 117 in their first innings.

"There was a little spot that was creating havoc and he (Plummer) kept finding it,'' Wells said.

Frenchville swing bowler Aaron Cowan cleaned up the tail to return figures of 6/16 (11.1 overs).

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bluebirds run-machine Brendan Dunbar (30) was caught by Wells off Liam Kelly, while Clay Crouch (34) played a captain's knock in the middleorder.

Plummer then gave Bluebirds some hope, snaring his first victim in the third over when he had Nick Hills (1) caught by Barry Stanley before he removed Kelly (10), new recruit Sean Toovey (4) and Keith Brownlow (4) cheaply.
