Wilson helps fire up Dziwoki for season
Fire netball shooter Carla Dziwoki is in awe of her new coach for the 2006 season, former Queensland and Australian shooter Vicki Wilson.
Dziwoki was in Rockhampton yesterday for the Rockhampton Netball sign-on day at Jardine Park, looking forward to hopefully more success for the Fire this season.
Despite rigorous training the Fire were winless last season. Preparing for her third season with the Fire, Dziwoki, 23, hopes Wilson's enthusiasm might turn things around.
"As a shooter I'm so excited to sponge all the knowledge I can from her (Wilson),'' Dziwoki said.
"She's so enthusiastic and keeps the fun ele-ment in there.''
One goal of Fire this season was to eliminate costly laps and play a complete four-quarter game.
"With the calibre of some other national league sides you can't afford two-tothree-minute lapses or they'll steamroll you.''
Teams like the Melbourne Phoenix and Sydney Swifts boast too much talent.
It is the Swifts that Dziwoki is particularly both inspired and daunted by.
Her favourite player is Swifts shooter Catherine Cox.
"I wish I could play like her,'' Dziwoki said. "She's so cool, calm and collected.''
At the other end of the Swifts' court is her toughest opponent Australian captain, goal keeper Liz Ellis.
"Knowing who she is and what she's achieved is tough,'' Dziwoki said.
"She's strong and can read the play so well. I remember my first game against her when I was playing for the AIS Darters (2003), oh the nerves, I was so glad to get my first goal in.
