Winner Watts back in class

YEPPOON young gun Boyd Watts was back in golf lessons yesterday trying to iron out some creases in his Capricorn Country Club championship-winning round on Sunday.

This 16-year-old, who plays off scratch, is searching for that perfect game.

"I wasn't really happy with how I played,'' said Watts, of his winning score of 93 over 24 holes on the weekend.

"I didn't hit the ball well.

"It was also pretty disruptive leading into the event with the rain during the week, and I had some school work I had to do.''

Watts won this year's title from another young player, Emu Park's Wyley Ince (99).

It was his second men's open title after winning at Emu Park last year.

The Yeppoon Golf Club member's next challenge is the Australian junior titles in Toowoomba from April 7.

In B grade on Sunday Capricorn Country Club's Matthew Nipperess (108) won the title from fellow club member Jordan Green (111).

The C-grade winner on Saturday was Capricorn's David Price (117) in a play-off from Capricorn's Des Clarke.
