Young chargers step up

JUST four years ago, Matt Bourne and his front-row partner Matt Jarvis were carving up opposition defences in junior football.

Tonight, the promising CQU Norths Chargers forwards will continue on their path of destruction against Rockhampton Brothers in round two of the $5000 Central Comets Pre-Season Challenge at Browne Park.

The Chargers are banking on youth this season following the departure of almost their entire forward pack from last year's grand final winning team.

Chargers coach Darryl Horst- man has given Bourne, 21, and Jarvis, 20, the chance to establish a combination up-front in the top-grade ahead of the season kick-off in March.

Both players impressed in last weekend's 34-16 win over Fitzroy-Gracemere who tackle the Yeppoon Seagulls in today's opening match.
