Aquatic Recreation Centre construction company announced

Gympie Regional Council Mayor Mick Curran says, 'Council is looking forward to Hutchison Builders involvement in our ARC project.

Their detailed knowledge and experience of projects of this nature will be a real asset in building this vital piece of community infrastructure.'

Cr. Curran said the appointment of the construction company is a significant milestone of the ARC project, with a substantial amount of work including demolition works, site preparation and the overflow carpark completed to get to the building stage of the much anticipated community aquatic facility.

'This decision means that work on the site can begin imminently, so we should see lots of activity on the site in coming weeks.'

'The demand for such a facility has increased significantly over the years as the population in the region has grown. ARC will accommodate this increasing demand and will be of great benefit to the community's social and physical wellbeing and the liveability of the whole region,' Cr. Curran said.

ARC will have as its core features a 50 metre outdoor pool, a 25 metre heated indoor pool and a water play area for children. Council aims for the facility to be operational by December 2016.

Council received funding support of $5million from the Federal Government for the ARC project in the last financial year.
