Armed man arrested after seven-hour siege in Sydney

AN ARMED man has been arrested after a seven-hour siege with police in Sydney's west.

The stand-off ended about 7.30am.

It is believed the man was armed with three guns and a homemade bomb, and had left the gas running inside his Ashcroft home for several hours.

Earlier, police surrounded a property amid reports of a stand-off with a heavily armed man.

Initial reports of the siege on in Ashcroft suggest the erratically behaving man has a gun and possibly a home-made bomb.

It is believed the confrontation began on the footpath of Maxwells Ave about midnight.

Police blocked off the road surrounding an apartment complex on Devlin St where the man is believed to be inside.
