Bundaberg hit by two armed robberies over weekend

TWO armed robberies occurred in Bundaberg at the weekend.

A Queensland Police spokesman said around 7.30pm on Saturday night a man armed with a meat cleaver entered the liquor store on Thabeban St on Saturday and demanded money from the male attendant.

The attendant complied with demands and the man fled the store on foot with a sum of cash and some bottles of alcohol.

No one was physically injured during the incident.

The man was wearing all black clothing with a red bandanna covering his face.

About 4.30am yesterday, a second armed robbery occurred, this time at Hungry Jack's on Takalvan St.

A Queensland Police spokesman said a male in a grey-blue tracksuit and ski mask was armed with a bat and a knife when he approached two employees.

"The man demanded money and then struck one of the employees with the bat," the spokesman said.

"Staff complied and handed over a sum of cash and the man then fled on foot in an unknown direction."

An employee was treated at the scene for minor injuries by Queensland Ambulance Service.

The restaurant was closed off to the public yesterday morning and reopened about lunch time.

Police said there was nothing to indicate that the robberies were related in any way.
