Ash cloud cancels Garnaut's visit

AN extraordinary weather event has forced Australia’s leading climate change expert Professor Ross Garnaut to abandon plans to speak in Rockhampton tomorrow.

Professor Garnaut, a leading architect of the Federal Government’s climate change policies, was due to speak to a crowd of more than 80 people at Belmont Research Station near the Central Queensland town tomorrow, about the effects of a carbon tax on agriculture.

But, due to a huge volcanic ash cloud lingering over much of Australia’s east coast, the trip has been cancelled.

Prof Garnaut’s visit will be re-scheduled for a later date.
