Aussie battlers in last-ditch shot at Masters berth

A HANDFUL of Australian players will need to win this week's Houston Open to earn an 11th-hour call-up for the Masters the following week.

Aussies Jason Day (pictured), Marc Leishman, amateur Antonio Murdaca, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and John Senden are already among the 99 players invited to Augusta, and if someone outside that group wins in Houston, the number of starters would reach 100 for the first time since 1963.

That's contingent on former world No.1 Tiger Woods taking his place in the line-up. The 39-year-old hasn't played since a back injury forced him to withdraw from the Farmers Insurance Open on February 5. Woods, who won the last of his four Masters titles in 2005, has been rated a 50-50 chance of teeing it up next Thursday.

American Jimmy Walker fired a final-round two-under-par 70 to finish on 11-under to win the Texas Open by four shots from countryman Jordan Spieth.
