Avo idea hits shelves

A HOME-grown Bundaberg product which promises to banish unsightly brown spots from avocados forever has hit the shelves of national supermarkets.

The new Avo Fresh range of products has been released in staggered intervals in Australian Woolworths Stores with a nationwide release in March.

Director of New Fresh Foods Trent De Paoli said the company was proud to see the product finally grace the shelves of supermarkets after five years of formulation, from conception to consumption.

“Sales have been strong right across the board in Australia and we've had repeat sales as far away as Russia,” he said.

“Things are looking very promising and we plan to focus on export during the next few years.”

The Avo Fresh range includes avocado – both diced and pulped which has been given a dash of lemon juice – a pinch of salt and packaged into plastic tubes and tubs using special high-pressure technology.

Pureed avocado can be squeezed from a tube on to sandwiches and crackers, diced avocado can be added to nachos or used as a dip and pulped avocado with a firming agent added can be sliced and added to salads.

The Avo Fresh range includes seven different products.

Some of them have had garlic, chilli and coriander added for extra flavour.

Mr De Paoli said the products guaranteed soft, buttery avocado free of discolouration and brown spots every time.

That's something that mother nature cannot equal.

“That's the most common complaint with avocados,” he said.

“But this takes the guess work of it.

“With our products the consumer always knows what they're getting.”

Mr De Paoli said the product was part of a push by local agricultural operators to adapt to the changing face of the Australian industry.

“In a time of difficulty for the agronomic sector we continue to innovate with new products and applications and be the masters of our own destiny,” he said.
