Awesome effort takes Stephanie to quarters

LENNOX Head surfer Stephanie Single came up against the best at the World Junior Championships in Brazil.

Single reached the quarter-finals of the event before going down to French surfer Joanne Defay.

After a promising start to the competition she only managed to register a 6.30 (out of a possible 20) with Defay winning comfortably with a 15.87.

Single was the only surfer from the Far North Coast at the event and walked away equal fifth.

New Zealand surfer Ella Williams beat Hawaiian Tatiana Weston-Webb in the final.
