Baby makes it in time for the day

LITTLE Colter Bailey James Hickson gave his mum a Christmas present she will never forget.

The first baby born on Christmas Day at the Rockhampton Hospital at 5.50am, Colter's mum Timantha Nicol said he wasn't due until January 2.

"I came in at 3.30am and I ended up having an emergency c-section because there were a few problems but it all turned out okay," Timantha said.

Timantha's first-born, Colter weighed in at 4130 grams, and she and partner Ashley Hickson said they were very proud.

But the family said they would enjoy the rest of Christmas Day by just taking it easy.

"All my family have been up to visit us, so every year from now on it won't just be about celebrating Christmas," Timantha said.

"I'd probably just be having a quiet one with friends and family if he wasn't born yet."

The Rockhampton Hospital maternity ward staff said they were expecting one more Christmas Day baby and the Mater Hospital said they had none born so far.
