Backpacker stuck on fence in ploy to avoid $10 entry fee

A FAILED ploy to avoid a nightclub cover charge has left a backpacker impaled on a fence, and potentially facing the cost of repairing the bloodied barrier that had to be cut apart to free him.

He is also understood to have asked onlookers if he could borrow their Snapchat, to record the harrowing, and painful experience.

The 26-year-old was attempting to climb a 2.5m fence to avoid the $10 charge to enter Gilligan's nightclub in Cairns.

Two spiked palings of the fence pierced through his right thigh, requiring emergency services to break out the jaws-of-life to cut him free.

Witnesses told the Cairns Post the man appeared heavily intoxicated.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said the man was still impaled on the cut portion of fence as he arrived at hospital.
