Baird promises political donation laws will change
POLITICAL donation laws in New South Wales are set for an overhaul following the Independent Commission Against Corruption's discovery of widespread dishonesty.
Premier Mike Baird has given in-principle support to 49 of 50 reforms recommended by an expert panel.
Under the plan, all donations would have to be disclosed online, in real time, for the six months leading to an election.
Campaign funding from groups including unions and business organisations would also be cut under a re-elected Coalition Government.
But one recommendation did not receive Mr Baird's support - the establishment of an independent body to approve any increase to public funds given to parties.
"We are determined to clean up politics in NSW and I thank the panel for guiding us on further ways to limit the corrosive influence associated with political donations," Mr Baird said.
