Bakery is top crust

VICTORY tastes sweet for the Maryborough French Hot Bread Shop, which has been officially voted the best bakery in Queensland for the second year running.

The much-loved Adelaide St bakery, which recently expanded into new premises, was the state winner in a national competition to find Australia's best bakery.

It took out the title in the national Pilot Australia's Best Bakery Competition.

Maryborough French Hot Bread owner Van Phuong Pham thanked his customers across the Fraser Coast for the competition win.

“It's a fantastic feeling to be named the state's best bakery for the second year in a row, but the number of votes we received from the local community is especially humbling,” he said.

The shop received 780 online votes between May 1 and July 31 to give it a clear lead over the other competitors in the state.

Mr Pham said the award was a real boost for all of the bakery staff.

“Baking is more than a job for us, it's a chance to use our passion for cooking to please our customers, so it's rewarding being recognised for it,” the winning baker said.

Manager Teresa Pham said she shook as she took the phone call saying the bakery had won again. “I just couldn't believe it,” she said.

Pilot national marketing manager Hayley Daniel said “Last year 260 Australian bakeries participated and this year was even better with 338 bakeries participating and 40,363 votes cast overall,” she said.

“The competition really puts the quality of food and service at each bakery to the test, so Maryborough French Hot Bread should be very proud to be acknowledged as the best in Queensland.''
