Fridge causes banana truck fire

A REFRIGERATION unit fault caused a truck carrying 22 tonnes of bananas to catch fire north of Rockhampton at about 11am Thursday.

Emergency service crews attended the scene of the accident near the BP service station on the Bruce Hwy at Marlborough.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the refrigeration unit of the trailer started the fire, with trailer wheels also on fire at one point.

"It's all unloaded," the spokesman said.

"There were quite a few hot bananas when we had to unload and had to cool down," he said.

He said the prime mover of the truck was unhitched and moved early.

The spokesman said the truck driver received no injuries.
