Banned Sydney FC defender won’t miss Brisbane Roar clash

SYDNEY FC defender Sasa Ognenovski will be free to play against the Brisbane Roar in a crucial A-League game on Friday night, despite copping a one-game ban for slapping Wanderers player Vitor Saba in the back of his head in their match last weekend.

Ognenovski (pictured) was handed his penalty yesterday, just hours before Sydney FC was due to kick off its FFA Cup quarter-final against Adelaide United.

The timing of the ban meant Sky Blues coach Graham Arnold was able to give the defender the night off and save him for the Roar encounter. Given the scheduling - with Sydney playing three games in six days - it was highly unlikely Ognenovski would have played against Adelaide anyway.

Saba was also given a one-match ban for his two-footed challenge on Sydney FC's Terry Antonis. He will serve that in the round five match against Wellington, which is the Wanderers' next A-League assignment.
